Ways to support during NAIDOC week
At co-consult we work on unceded Gadigal, Bidiagal and Birrabirragal land. We wanted to take a moment to acknowledge all First Peoples of these beautiful lands and celebrate their enduring knowledge and connections to Country. We honour the wisdom of and pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
Each year NAIDOC Week celebrations are held nationally across Australia in the first week of July to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and celebrate the oldest continuous living cultures on earth.
As an action we’ve taken a moment to review the Supporting NAIDOC Toolkit and pulled out a few suggested ways that you can consider showing your support during the week:
Follow, share and comment on NAIDOC social media
Find out whose Country you are on at AIATSIS Map of Indigenous Australia(and consider adding the acknowledgement to your email signatures and website)
For business owners, use your platform to amplify First Nations voices, commit to truth-telling and make a public commitment to build partnerships through your RAP
Listen to podcasts or music by First Nations artists and creatives
Add a National NAIDOC Week banner to your email, use a NAIDOC Teams background or download social media tiles/frames to use on Instagram or Facebook at NAIDOC Downloads.
Make a purchase from a Blak business – make sure profits go to First Nations makers
Attend a NAIDOC Week Event (you can find an event in your local area by checking out the NAIDOC Event Calendar).
Follow First Nations social media accounts and share their content (we can’t go past Steven Oliver and his documentary Looky Looky here comes Cooky)
We believe that when people thrive, together, they can transform our future. So we encourage you to consider ways to make everyday and lasting change to the ways that you work. At co-consult we’re taking this time to research ahead of the upcoming Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice Referendum so plan to share our thoughts and views here as we progress.
